What you need before you apply for an eVisitor (subclass 651), based on the official Home Affairs requirements.
eVisitor criteria
Core requirements
Home Affairs requires every eVisitor applicant to meet these criteria.
Passport & location
- A citizen passport from an eVisitor-eligible country
- Be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided
- One application per person, including children
Genuine visitor
- Intend to stay only temporarily
- Follow your visa conditions and stay period
- Have enough money to support yourself and leave Australia
Health & character
- Meet the health requirement
- Meet the character requirement (with a conviction, Home Affairs advises a different visa)
- Have repaid, or arranged to repay, any debts to the Australian Government

For your eVisitor
- Passport from an eligible European country or UK (British Citizen)
- Your passport details, with your name spelled exactly as in the passport
- A working email address
- Details of any criminal conduct, if applicable (Home Affairs may ask for a police certificate)
- English translations of any non-English documents, if Home Affairs requests documents
What our form asks
- Your trip: arrival date, purpose and number of travellers
- Personal and contact details
- Passport number, issue and expiry dates
- Other passports or names, if any
- Health and character declarations
Not eligible?
- New Zealand citizens usually get a Special Category visa (444) on arrival
- Australian citizens don't need a visa
- Other passports can't use the eVisitor. Check the official Visa Finder
Before you book: Home Affairs advises not to arrange travel until your visa is granted in writing. Visitors are personally liable for healthcare costs in Australia, so health insurance is recommended.
